Scope of the EIAG
The scope of Industrial Archaeology covered by EIAG would be at its widest and include all industries which operated historically within Essex:
- Primary and extractive industries, including quarrying;
- Secondary processing and manufacturing industries, e.g. milling, malting, brewing, brick-making, textiles, foundries, engineering etc.;
- Construction industry, including timber and cement manufacturers;
- Public utilities - gas, electricity, water supply and sewage, communications;
- Fishing and model farms;
- Transport infrastructure - roads, inland waterways, ports and railways;
- Industrial housing and company villages, including social facilities;
- Documentary, photographic and film archives;
- Oral, local and family history;
- Archaeology and standing building surveys;
- Industrial technology, architecture, engineers, entrepreneurs, workers and other people;
- Industrial heritage, including museums and promotion of industrial culture to the public.
EIAG Committee
The EIAG Committee consists of the following Officers:
- Chairman
- Vice-chairman
- Secretary
- Membership Services
- Programme Secretary (ESAH Programme Secretary)
- Three other members
The Chairman is a Trustee of ESAH and hence sits on ESAH's Council, and otherwise report to Council through the minutes of Committee meetings.
All officers will be appointed each November at the Annual Meeting.
The Committee will identify individuals who would be able to serve on the Committee to help ‘succession planning’.
The Committee will publicise the activities of the Group, including preparing its own Newsletter and reports for the Society’s Newsletter.
The Committee will meet a minimum of four times a year.
